Objective I: Overview and Evidence

*Objective 1: To become a more skilled, confident and articulate media producer*

Activities/ Resources

  1. Read through old press releases, blogs and podcasts written by Save the Bay staff members

  2. Look at the way other well-known nonprofit organizations run their media sites and translate those tools into my own work

  3. Discuss ways to continue to improve my writing with my internship advisor. Have her edit my pieces and communicate the changes being made.

Evidence:

- Written pieces and a produced podcast of my own work, published  Save The Bay

Over the course of the semester I have written several press releases, blogs and created a podcast that have been published onto Save The Bay's website. The first published piece was a "Critter Tale" featuring two Diamondback Terrapins that were rescued by Save The Bay and rehabilitated back to full strength and now live permanently at STB's Exploration Center and Aquarium. Other published pieces involve press releases about upcoming events at Save The Bay, such as seal tours and their big fundraising effort called the Artists for the Bay Art Show & Sale. My last big project of the semester involved creating the monthly podcast for the month of December about the monthly theme at the Exploration Center. I produced, edited, hosted and shot the podcast all on my own.

Below I have provided three buttons that will take you directly to the links where you can see one of my published blogs, a press release and a podcast. In order to create these pieces I had to work on my interviewing and editing skills simultaneously, while still being able to find my voice as a writer. The three features I chose to share with you are pieces that I am particularly proud of, but also believe that through each story, from the order of the bottom left to right side, you can see the different skills and tools I have acquired throughout this semester.

Additionally, on my home page there is a piece I wrote that was published in Rhode Island Parent Magazine's December Issue, if you click "Read More" it will take you to the full article on my Additional Content tab. This is one of my works that I am extremely proud of as well.

Enjoy!
