Objective 1: Overview and Evidence

*Objective 1: To become a more skilled, confident, and articulate sports reporter and feature storywriter*

Activities/Rescources:

  • Read through old sports features and game recaps written by GoRhody.com staff members

  • Look at sports features written by ESPN, Sports Illustrated, etc.

  • Discuss ways to improve my writing skills with my internship advisor. Have him edit my pieces and discuss the changes being made.

Evidence:

-Written pieces of my own work that have been published on GoRhody.com

Over the course of the semester I have written seven articles for GoRhody.com that have been published onto the sight. The first published piece was a story about the URI athletics program teaming up with the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence in an effort to create ad campaigns for the month of October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Three of my other pieces have been personal blog stories from my own first person perspective that provide insight into what it's like to be a member of my team, the URI softball team. Two other stories have been features on URI volleyball players who were having successful seasons, and a feature story on one of the captains of the women's basketball team and how she has emerged into her leadership role.

Below I have provided three buttons that will take you directly to the GoRhody.com link where you can see my published stories. In order to write these stories I had to work on my interviewing and editing skills simultaneously, while still being able to find my voice as a writer. The three stories I chose to share with you are pieces that I am particularly proud of, but also believe that through each story, from the order of the bottom left to right side, you can see how my writing has improved over the course of the semester.

I hope you enjoy reading my work as much as I enjoyed producing it!
